Aesthetic Procedures and Their Downtime

Choose a procedure to see its typical downtime, day-by-day recovery, daily-life restrictions, and how to space it with other treatments.

Facial Contouring Surgery

Buccal Fat Removal

Moderate
Cheek swelling and tightness last about 1–2 weeks. The incision is inside the mouth, barely visible from the outside, and easy to hide with a mask.

Jowl Fat Removal

Moderate
Swelling, bruising, and a feeling of tightness for about 1–2 weeks; significant swelling typically lasts 3–4 days. A mask can hide most of it (individual results vary).

Malar Fat Removal

Moderate
Swelling and bruising last about 1–2 weeks. They tend to appear around the under-eye area, so having sunglasses or makeup on hand to conceal them can be reassuring.

Nasolabial Fat Removal

Moderate
Cheek swelling, bruising, and stiffness for about 1–2 weeks. The incision is inside the mouth, so it is hard to see from the outside, and the area is easy to cover with a mask (individual results vary).

Surgical Facelift

Extensive
A surgical procedure with a longer downtime: significant swelling and bruising typically last 1–2 weeks, and it takes several months for tightness and scar redness to settle (individual results vary).

頬骨削り(頬骨骨切り)

Extensive
A bone-cutting surgery with long downtime: strong swelling and bruising are generally said to last 1–2 weeks, puffiness, numbness, and firmness settle over 1–3 months, and final results typically appear at 3–6 months (individual results vary).

エラ骨切り(下顎角形成)

Extensive
Swelling typically peaks 2–3 days after surgery, and major swelling settles in about 2 weeks. The final contour is generally said to take 3–6 months, and many people set aside 1–2 weeks off work.

オトガイ形成(顎の骨切り)

Extensive
Strong swelling generally lasts 1–2 weeks, and major swelling takes about 2–4 weeks to subside. Numbness and puffiness in the lower lip may remain for several months, and the final result is generally said to take 3–6 months — making this a surgical procedure with a long downtime (individual results vary).

顎プロテーゼ

Moderate
Swelling typically peaks at days 2–3, and the major swelling settles in about 1–2 weeks. Taping lasts around 3 days to 1 week, and the chin is considered an easy area to hide behind a mask.

えくぼ形成

Mild
Cheek swelling and discomfort typically last 1–2 weeks. The dimple shows even at rest at first, but is generally said to settle over 1–3 months into a natural state that appears only when you smile.

Liposuction & Fat Grafting

Thread Lifts & Lifting

Eye Surgery

Double Eyelid Surgery (Buried Suture, Non-Incision)

Mild
Swelling usually settles within a few days to about a week, and any bruising often fades in around 2 weeks. The area is easy to conceal with glasses or makeup (individual results vary).

Double Eyelid Surgery (Incision Method)

Substantial
Significant swelling typically lasts 1–2 weeks. It takes about 3–6 months to settle into a natural look. Stitches usually come out on day 5–7.

Epicanthoplasty (Inner Corner Surgery)

Moderate
Swelling, bruising, and redness typically settle in 1–2 weeks. Stitches are usually removed after 5–7 days. Because the inner eye area is involved, a mask cannot hide it well, and scar redness fades gradually over several months.

Lateral Canthoplasty (Outer Corner Surgery)

Moderate
Swelling, bruising, and redness generally last 1–2 weeks. Stitches come out at around 5–7 days, and redness along the incision can take a few months to settle (individual results vary).

Lower Eyelid Lowering (Glamorous Line)

Moderate
Swelling and bruising last about 1–2 weeks. The area is fairly easy to conceal with sunglasses or bangs, and intense swelling typically lasts only a few days.

Upper Eyelid Fat Removal

Mild
Swelling and bruising typically last 1–2 weeks, with the strongest swelling around days 3–4. This area is easy to conceal with glasses or bangs.

Upper Blepharoplasty (Skin Excision)

Moderate
Swelling and bruising typically last 1–2 weeks, with stitches removed around 1 week after surgery. The incision sits hidden along the eyelid crease, and glasses or makeup make this area relatively easy to conceal.

Sub-Brow Lift (Under-Brow Incision)

Moderate
Swelling and bruising typically last 1–2 weeks, with stitches removed around days 5–7. The scar tends to hide along the lower edge of the brow — an area that is relatively easy to cover with brow makeup, bangs, or glasses (individual results vary).

Ptosis Correction Surgery

Substantial
Upper eyelid swelling and bruising typically last 1–2 weeks; pronounced swelling lasts 3–4 days, with stitches removed around 1 week. Glasses and a mask tend to make it easy to conceal (individual results vary).

Non-Incision Under-Eye Bag Removal (Transconjunctival Fat Removal)

Mild
Swelling typically lasts a few days to about a week. If bruising appears, it often takes around 2 weeks to fade, and this procedure is fairly easy to conceal with glasses or makeup (individual results vary).

Lower Blepharoplasty (Skin Excision)

Moderate
Swelling and bruising typically last about 1–2 weeks. Until the stitches come out (usually around days 5–7), the incision tends to be noticeable, and many people cover the area with glasses or makeup.

Internal Hamra (Transconjunctival Fat Repositioning)

Substantial
Swelling and bruising typically last 2–3 weeks. Because the incision is on the inside of the eyelid, it is generally said to be hard to see from the outside and easy to conceal with makeup or glasses.

External Hamra (Transcutaneous Fat Repositioning)

Substantial
Swelling and bruising typically last 1–2 weeks (intense swelling for the first 3–4 days). Stitches come out around days 5–7. Bruising under the eyes is hard to hide with a mask or glasses, so concealer becomes the main option once the stitches are removed.

まつ毛育毛治療

Almost none
Because this is a topical, apply-only treatment, there is almost no downtime such as swelling or wounds. Work, makeup, and going out are generally possible as usual from the very first day.

Nose Surgery

Nasal Implant (Augmentation Rhinoplasty)

Substantial
The nasal cast stays on for about 1 week, and swelling and bruising typically last 1–2 weeks. Many people hide the cast with a mask, and there is a period when being seen in public is harder.

Nasal Tip Plasty

Substantial
Tape fixation on the nasal tip lasts about 1 week. Significant swelling and bruising last around 3–7 days, and it typically takes 2–4 weeks to look natural (individual results vary).

Septal Extension

Substantial
The cast stays on for about 1 week, and strong swelling typically lasts 3–4 days. Once the cast comes off, a mask makes concealment easier, though it can take several months for the nose to settle naturally.

Hump Resection (Dorsal Hump Removal)

Substantial
The cast stays on for about 1 week. Swelling and bruising usually become less noticeable within 1–2 weeks, and the final result typically takes 3–6 months.

Alar Reduction (Nostril Base Reduction)

Moderate
Swelling and bruising typically last 1–2 weeks, with stitch removal around days 5–7. Scars may take several months to settle.

Nostril Rim Plasty

Moderate
Noticeable swelling and bruising generally last about 1–2 weeks. Incisions are mostly inside the nose, making this procedure easy to conceal with a mask.

Columella Reshaping (Elevation / Lowering)

Moderate
Swelling and bruising generally last about 1–2 weeks. A splint or tape is worn for a few days to about 1 week, and after stitch removal, makeup makes it easier to keep things discreet.

鼻骨骨切り(幅寄せ)

Extensive
The cast stays on for about 1 week, and major swelling — including bruising around the eyes — typically lasts 2–4 weeks. Many people feel ready to be seen in public from around 2 weeks, and the final result is generally said to take 3–6 months or more.

鼻の糸リフト(隆鼻・鼻尖)

Mild
Swelling and pain generally peak from the day of the procedure through days 2–3, and the major swelling is said to settle in about a week for most people. The nose is an area that is easy to hide with a mask.

Lip & Philtrum Surgery

Ear, Breast & Body Surgery

Prominent Ear Correction

Moderate
Expect the ear dressing to stay on for a few days to 1 week, with swelling and bruising for about 1–2 weeks. The scar sits behind the ear and is easy to hide with your hair.

Earlobe Repair (Split Earlobe / Piercing Hole Correction)

Mild
Swelling and bruising last a few days to about a week. Stitches typically come out around days 5–7. The scar settles over several months, and the area is easy to hide with your hair (individual results vary).

Nipple Reduction / Inverted Nipple Correction

Moderate
Swelling and pain typically last a few days to 1 week, with stitches removed at about 1–2 weeks. Clothing hides the area, but take care to protect it from rubbing and pressure.

Areola Reduction

Moderate
Swelling and tightness typically last 1–2 weeks. Stitches are usually removed after 1–2 weeks, and it often takes several months for the scar to become less noticeable.

Breast Augmentation (Implant / Fat Transfer)

Substantial
Strong pain and swelling last a few days to 1 week; bruising and tightness about 2–4 weeks. The shape typically settles over 3–6 months, with individual variation.

脂肪注入豊胸

Substantial
Breast swelling and pain typically last 1–2 weeks; bruising and muscle-ache-like pain at the liposuction sites last about 2–4 weeks. Many people are said to return to desk work within 3 days to 1 week.

乳房縮小術

Extensive
Strong swelling and pain tend to ease within 1–2 weeks, and most of the major swelling settles in about 1 month. As a general guide, the shape settles over 3–6 months and the scars over 6 months to 1 year, with individual variation.

陥没乳頭修正

Mild
Swelling and pain typically last 1–2 weeks, and scar redness takes about 1–3 months to settle. Because the area is hidden by clothing, it is unlikely to be noticed by others, and the impact on daily life is generally said to be relatively small.

ピアス穴あけ(医療)

Almost none
Pain and redness often settle within a few days, but the first studs generally stay in for 4–6 weeks on the earlobe and 2–3 months or more on cartilage. Most people can return to work or school as usual on the same day.

Injectables (Botox, Fillers & More)

Skin Boosters & Collagen Stimulators

Skin Booster (Water Glow Injection)

Very mild
Redness, puffiness, and small needle marks for the first few days. If bruising appears, allow 1–2 weeks. Easy to conceal with makeup.

Collagen-Stimulating Injection (Juvelook, etc.)

Mild
Needle marks, redness, and slight swelling typically last a few days to 1 week. Small bumps or firm lumps may be felt for a time. Makeup can generally resume the next day (individual results vary).

GOURI (Liquid PCL Injection)

Very mild
Redness at the injection sites and bruising for a few days to about a week. Relatively mild downtime that is easy to hide with a mask or light makeup.

Polynucleotide Injection (Salmon DNA)

Mild
Redness at the needle marks and small bumps typically last from the day of treatment to a few days; if bruising appears, allow 1–2 weeks. This treatment is easy to conceal with a mask or makeup.

Profhilo

Very mild
Small bumps right after injection typically last a few hours to about 2 days; if bruising occurs, allow 1–2 weeks. Most of it can be covered with makeup.

Sunekos Injection

Very mild
Small bumps and redness at the injection sites are said to settle within a few hours to half a day, and any bruising typically fades within about 1–2 weeks for most people. Downtime is mild and easy to conceal with makeup (individual results vary).

Jalupro

Very mild
Redness at the needle marks and small bumps typically last from the day of treatment to a few days. If bruising appears, allow about 1–2 weeks. Downtime is generally considered relatively mild and easy to hide behind a mask.

PRP皮膚再生療法

Mild
Swelling and redness at the injection sites typically last 2–3 days, and bruising, if it occurs, about 1–2 weeks. The under-eye area is prone to swelling and puffiness, so allowing extra time before important events is reassuring.

エクソソーム(点滴・導入)

Almost none
With an IV drip, expect little more than redness at the needle site; with facial delivery, needle marks and redness typically last from a few hours to a few days. Please note that the products used are not approved in Japan.

幹細胞培養上清液(点滴・注入)

Very mild
For an IV drip, expect little more than redness at the insertion site; for an injection, needle marks and light bruising are a rough guide of a few days to a week. Please note that products using culture supernatant are not approved in Japan.

Skin Renewal & Device Treatments (HIFU, RF, Microneedling)

HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound)

Very mild
Redness, mild swelling, and muscle-ache-like soreness can last for a few days. In many cases makeup can be worn from the same day, and the treatment is generally said to be hard for others to notice (individual results vary).

Radiofrequency (RF) Skin Tightening

Very mild
Redness and warmth for a few hours to a few days. Makeup is often possible the same day, making it easy to conceal.

Microneedling (Dermapen)

Mild
Redness and stinging typically last from the day of treatment to 2–3 days. Pinpoint redness or a rough texture may linger for a few days. Makeup is generally OK from the next day, making this an easy treatment to conceal.

Chemical Peel

Very mild
Mild redness, dryness, and light flaking for roughly a few days to 1 week. Same-day makeup is often possible, and it tends to be relatively unnoticeable even without a mask.

INDIBA (Radiofrequency Recovery Care)

Almost none
Essentially no downtime. Gentle warmth and mild redness for a few hours right after; makeup OK the same day.

ニードルRF(マイクロニードルRF)

Mild
Redness and warmth typically last from the day of treatment to 2–3 days, and tiny scabs and rough texture a few days to 1 week. Makeup is often allowed from the next day, making this a relatively easy treatment to conceal.

毛穴洗浄トリートメント(ハイドロピーリング)

Almost none
Even if redness or a warm, flushed feeling appears, it is generally said to settle within a few hours to the same day. Makeup and work are usually fine from the same day, and time off is generally considered unnecessary.

エレクトロポレーション(導入)

Almost none
Even if mild redness or a warm flush appears, it is generally said to settle within a few hours to a day. Makeup is often possible from the same day, and taking time off is usually not necessary.

ニキビ治療(面皰圧出・内服外用)

Very mild
Redness after comedone extraction typically lasts a few hours to about 3 days, and time off work is generally said to be unnecessary. Topical medications may cause dryness and peeling for a few weeks when you first start them.

妊娠線・肉割れ治療

Very mild
Redness and stinging typically last 2–3 days, and even if dryness or tiny pinpoint scabs appear, they generally settle within about a week. Because treatment areas such as the abdomen and thighs are usually covered by clothing, most people can return to work the same day.
